For the month of November - and pending selection, for Scotland's Autumn Internationals -  I will be sporting a delicious moustache for a wheelie wheelie good reason (you could call it my whizzy whiskers). I am trying to raise money for a beautiful wee girl Eilidh Macfarlane in order to help buy her some new wheels. Read her story below. Any donations big or small will be hugely appreciated.

http://whizzywheels.blogspot.com/p/home.html

On Thursday 27th May 2010 Eilidh Macfarlane, at 16 months old, after months of worry, was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Grade 2.

A diagnosis which means that Eilidh will be wheelchair dependent

So the idea of Whizzy Wheels Fund for Eilidh came to being - a Fund to raise money to enable and empower Eilidh to be the best that she can be and to give us hope.

We need to raise money, in the first instance, for a powered wheelchair. The NHS will not supply Eilidh with a powered chair until she is 3 - and even then the chair that is offered is standard and does not allow the level of independence that a young child should have.

And yet a toddler of her age is already mobile and naturally inquisitive, learning as they toddle and fall.  Eilidh needs that opportunity, the opportunity to be mobile and independent, to learn and to explore her environment.  She deserves that opportunity.

The chair that we have chosen to pursue for Eilidh is the SnapDragon which will give her the best start in life.  Unlike the chair that the NHS may provide when she is 3, this chair lowers to ground level and raises too, allowing her to play on the floor with friends and hold hands with mummy and daddy when out for a walk.  As well as providing psychosocial benefits, the Snappie also comes with a standing frame option which has physical benefits for Eilidh too, for example, increasing bone density.  The SnapDragon far outclasses anything that the NHS will provide even if Eilidh could wait another 15 months for a powered chair.

The catch?  This innovative chair is from a small family run business and costs £19,908

We did not ask for this to happen to Eilidh.

We can not make her better

but we can try to give her as much support as possible
to grow and be as independent as another child. But we need your help...

So if you want to sponsor Eilidh

to be beautiful & brave,

to grow up independent & strong-willed,

to travel 1m in her Panthera, chasing her sister,

to look gorgeous in her SnapDragon,

or just to be Eilidh...

Please sponsor her by making a donation...

And please remember: we cannot put a price on Eilidh's independence but we do so want her to be independent... if you make a donation you will be helping achieve that and we are so very grateful...

Thank you

x

Now the important stuff...

Eilidh has been accepted as a beneficiary of The Turbo Trust.  The donations given on this page can go towards Eilidh's Snapdragon chair (and it'll be assumed that you would prefer them to).  However, if we raise too much money then the Turbo Trust will ensure that any excess money raised will go towards helping other children like Eilidh gain their Whizzy Wheels and independence with a  Snapdragon powerchair.
