Story

Hi! My name is Adam Johnston and I am 10 years old and have a disease called Dermatomyositis. Dermatomyositis is a disease where a skin rash occurs in the face, elbows, knuckles and knees with inflammation to the muscles. Normally the body's immune system protects it against infections such as those caused by bacteria and viruses, but my immune system attacks my body's own tissues, which causes the inflammation in my muscles and skin. This makes it hard for me to run, walk up the stairs or put on my socks and shoes.

I have to take prednisolone and methotrexate to help relieve my symptoms which means my Mum has to give me injections!

I sometimes get very tired but I do try to lead as normal life as possible. No one knows why it happens and there is no cure but my Friends at the Ulster Bank are running the Belfast Marathon to help raise money for research into my disease which will hopefully find a cure in the future.
