Story
Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.
We're going to be walking all the UK National Trails and raising money for the Woodland Trust in the process. Our first sponsored trail is Offa's Dyke (177 miles) which we're walking in 11 days beginning on the 16th May.
Please sponsor us - trees are beautiful and very necessary. We need to plant more of them and save more of them for future generations to breathe
The Project so far:
Well, we did it! A very big thank you to everybody who has donated so far. We completed the Offa's Dyke Path on the 27th May (taking 11 days as planned). There's a lot of steep ascents and descents on this trail - Offa was very relentless in the building of his dyke! Plus, we thought we were walking 177 miles but when we arrived in Prestatyn at the end of our journey, the sign pointing back to Chepstow (our starting point) said 182 miles -we felt suitably heroic! All in all though, a great walk through some outstandingly beautiful parts of the British Isles. Check out the Wye valley (especially the carpets of wild garlic and the bluebells); the Black mountains; the beauty of Shropshire and Herefordshire; Hergest Ridge; the dazzling white limestone scenery of Trevor rocks; the Clwydian Hills - just some of the many wonderful places we walked through and we definitely recommend a walk over Telford's famous aqueduct at Pontescyllte -not to be missed. We were also fortunate to stay at some great B & B's who really looked after us. Thank you to all of them.
We are trying to get to and from the trails by using trains exclusively as much as is possible. So far so good - our travel from home in Glasgow to the start point near Chepstow and then home again from Prestatyn was relatively painless. However, we did come back via Sheffield (visiting family). If we had gone straight back to Glasgow from Prestatyn, our train fare would have more than doubled. The mystery of travel by train in these fair islands! We'll keep you posted on this one.
Woodland Trust kindly did a feature on this project in their newsletter and, since then, we have had donations from generous people we do not even know - thank you so much.
Our next planned excursion is the Peddars Way & North Norfolk Coast path which we plan to do in early October - still on the drawing board but as soon as dates are fixed we'll post up the information. Keep on helping us to plant those trees.
You can donate to this project at any time.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Woodland Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
