Story

Well...i've run out of excuses....it would appear that i have finally arrived in the month (the 26th day to be exact) where i have to drag my ample carcass around 26 miles(+) of some of londons finest banking burial grounds (amongst other more minor sights) in this years London Marathon.

Why am I doing this? This is easier to answer than whether I can do it!

Three years ago my father died of a brain disease called PSP short for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy. PSP initially affects mainly your balance, swallowing, eyesight and vocal chords. The Progressive in PSP is the nasty bit. Each symptom gets steadily worse until complete paralysis takes over and several years can pass by before death. There is no known cure.

My dads case was atypical of the disease and very hard to watch for all the family. While these ghastly symptoms got steadily worse with us all knowing he had no chance of recovery Dads mental capacity was unimpaired. So we had the thrill of keeping in tune with his wonderful sense of humour throughout even the dark days. He bore all this with remarkable fortitude to his last days. We were able to keep Dad at home for many years due principally to my family's dedication but I know that both Dad and my Mum drew great strength in the knowledge that they were not alone.

This is where the PSP Association came in. There are over 4000 sufferers in the UK and your donation could make a real difference to help the Association find a cure.

Please please make a donation you feel comfortable with to help eliminate this dreadful disease.

In turn I will do my best to get round...sorry thinner....for the big day.

Thankyou

John Chesterman
