John Edward Thomas was born in Belfast 5th Oct 1918 and passed away in Kings Langley Bucks on 2nd Oct nearly reaching his 90th birthday.

In his teenage years he moved with the family and settled in Kensal Rise London and won a scholarship to Paddington Grammer School. In 1939 he enlisted in the Honorable Artillery Company (HAC) and served in 12th HAC regiment "D" Battery with active service in North Africa - Sbiba, Thala, then Italy - Cassino, Rome, Perugia, Arezzo, Florence and River Sen, ending in Austria.  In 1947 John married Norma Goldsmith and studied printing and estimating becoming print manager of Hazel Watson and Viney in Aylesbury, Bucks until he retired and moved to Kings Langley.

John is succeeded by a son and two daughters, a large and happy family with many grandchldren (one with Lowe Syndrome) and two great grandchildren. With his  grandchildren he proudly attended some HAC "D" battery reunions, including the 50th and presentation of new regimental colours by the Queen (who is the captain-general of the HAC). 

His Discharge papers state: Number 945128 W / BDR Military Service "Exemplary".  "Has served more than six years with the HAC regiment. Starting as a wireless mechanic he has finished his army career as a technical storeroom a post of considerable responsibility and trust. He has been quite first class, very hard working and concientious, cheerful honest and trustworthy, a loss to the army".
