JOHN'S BUNGEE JUMP FOR MAGGIE'S
...............and now other things too!!
Dateline: New Date: November 2012.
Location: Queenstown, New Zealand - (again!)
I'd like to thank you for taking the time to visit this, my page on Justgiving. If you feel you'd like to help my fundraising by leaving a donation, as I hope you will, then may I say "Thank You" for that too. Things have been going so well that I have been asked to extend my fundraising, something I am more than pleased to do, so the page is now open until the end of March 2013, so there's plenty of time!
Update - July 2011.
Now, for the latest news. Tow great things are happening, extending my fundraising for this wonderful cause through to November 2012!!
Following my splendid debut on the Bungy Jump (Nov 2010) Irene has decided to buy me a Sky Dive. Yup, she wants me to jump out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane!!
In turn, she will be returning to the Lovely Routeburn Track, in New Zealand's South Island. This delightful tramp took us 3 days when we did it as part of a guided group in November 2010. She said that it could be done in a day - at 32 kms and with not tooooo much up and down, that should be perfectly possible, she thought.
"Why not do it for Maggie's then?" asked I.
"OK", said she. So that is that. Once we've sorted our exact dates, I'll post them on here for you.
Update re the Bungy Jump, 1st December 2010.
Well, I did it!! As you can see from the new photos, I enjoyed a very sunny day for my leap into the unknown - not that I noticed the weather or the scenery too much during the 8.5 seconds of freefall!!
My donations and other contributions now total over £6000.00 with the Gift Aid taken into account, with still more to come - but there's room for even more if you feel so moved.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Maggie's Centres gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
I hope, too that you like the new, improved, photo, it is still not great but it's as good as it gets, I'm afraid!!
So.
WHY DID I DO A BUNGEE JUMP AND WHY AM I DOING A SKYDIVE TOO?
*It is something I've "always" wanted to do.
*I have a fear of heights which I don't let get in the way. Was this the ultimate test for me, or what? (I have to say that I managed very well, which did rather surprise me!!)
*I'm well insured, something my wife's happy about, apparently.
*It seemed like a good enough reason to go to New Zealand.
*Lots of guests at our Guest House think I've got a screw loose - the customer is always right.
*It's a lot easier than a sponsored walk or cycle - gravity does most of the work. I know this to be true, I've done it now!
*It fits with my image of me - adventurous, derring-do, brave, intrepid, (downnright daft in the head) - you know the sort of thing.
*It's something that I can do where I know my wife won't be peering over my shoulder. She wasn't! Bliss!!!!!!!!
*Life's too short to be sorry.
WHY MAGGIE'S?
*I'm a Cancer survivor. "Been there. Done that. Got the T-shirt." 'Nuff said.
*There's a real need for what Maggie's does and the way they do it.
*The NHS just doesn't do what Maggie's does.
Don't you just love the look of their superb buildings? (Hats off to the architects!)
*If I can go through life and give someone a leg-up on the way, that's no bad thing in my book.
There you go. If I've struck a chord with you do, please, give as generously as you can. Every little helps. Thank You.
John.
