Story

Update Wednesday 24 October

Many thanks to all of you who have paid up your sponsorship money.  Whilst there is still a bit more to come in, we are now at well over £2000, which is greatly appreciated both by me and the Bobby Moore Fund.

The knees have fully recovered now and I am about to start training for 2008 events in the next few days.

Once again, many thanks for your kind and generous support.

John Girdwood

PS - It is still not too late to sponsor me if you haven't done so already, either here online or by calling me on 07739 326036, as "every little helps!"

Post race update Monday 1 October 2007

The Great North Run is always a great day and yesterday was no exception.  The crowds were very supportive, clapping and cheering us on all the way round.  The weather was a bit too hot for my liking, so the drinks stations and the on-course showers were greatly appreciated.

Once again, I arrived at South Shields just as The Red Arrows were doing their display - fantastic.

My time was around 2 hours 18 minutes, over 10 minutes slower than last year, but that may have had something to do with the hotter weather and the fact that I managed to trip over my feet at the 10km mark, fall over and graze my knees, so I am blaming that for slowing me up.

Funds have come in really well, and we are getting very close to the £1966 target.  It is still not too late to make a donation, so if you have not been able to make your donation as yet, please do so now to help me match and hopefully beat my target.

Many thanks to you all for your kind and generous support.  It is really very much appreciated by me and the Bobby Moore Fund, and will enable them to continue their valuable work against bowel cancer.

John

Original message

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.

For the fourth year running, I am taking part in the Great North Run, all 13.1 miles of it., on Sunday 30th September 2007.  Once again, I will be raising funds for the Bobby Moore Fund, which is part of Cancer Research UK and concentrates on bowel cancer; the third most common form of cancer in the UK today, but one that can be successfully treated in many cases, if identified early enough.

Whenever anyone hears the name Bobby Moore, the number 1966 automatically springs to mind, so that is my target for this year £1966.  Whilst it is much more than I have raised previously, I am hoping that you will all be extremely generous in your donations and help me to achieve this sum, as I'm sure the Bobby Moore people will put it to excellent use in their fight against bowel cancer.  If everyone who sponsored me last time would do so again, that would be great.  If some of you could also encourage a friend or relation to sponsor me too, the target is achievable, so please do your best for me and the Bobby Moore Fund.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Bobby Moore Fund for Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

So please sponsor me now!

Many thanks for your support.

John
