POST RACE UPDATE
Sunday's Great North Run went very well. The weather was fine; dry, sunny and not too hot. The organisation was very smooth and the crowds were fantastic, clapping and cheering us all the way to South Shields. I even got there in time to see the Red Arrows display, which I always enjoy. I managed a time of 2 hours 9 minutes and 38 seconds, my second best ever, but still some way behind Andy Bell, who did 2 hours 7 minutes and 6 seconds, although he is much younger and carries less weight then me, so that is my excuse!
The Breakthrough Breast Cancer people gave us refreshments and looked after us very well after the race, and seemed very appreciative of our efforts. Funds are coming in pretty well and a big thank you to all of you who have already donated. If you haven't donated yet, for whatever reason there is still time to do so, either online using this site, or by calling me on 07739 326036 to be put on my sponsorship form. If you haven't done so already, please act now and dig deep for a very worthy cause.
Thankfully, my feet and legs are back to normal again now after a few aches and pains earlier in the week. It won't be long before I hit the local roads again for my next training run.
Hope to speak again soon.
Many thanks for your support.
John

ORIGINAL PRE RACE MESSAGE
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.
It's that time of year again and on Sunday 5 October, I'll be running the Great North Run, for the fifth year running. My training has been going quite well, so I am confident of getting round. Hopefully, I won't trip over half way round this time, and graze my knees again!
This year, my chosen charity is Breakthrough Breast Cancer. We probably all know someone who has suffered with Breast Cancer. It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK and accounts for nearly 1 in 3 of all cancers in women. Over 44,000 women are diagnosed with the disease every year in the UK. It accounted for my Mum over 30 years ago and has also affected other relations, friends, and even the son of one of my old football buddies. Breakthrough Breast Cancer is the leading charity committed to fightiing breast cancer through research, campaigning and education, and has established the UK's first dedicated breast cancer research centre. Along with its research units in London, Edinburgh and Manchester, they are working to improve our understanding of breast cancer and to turn their laboratory research into benefits for breast cancer patients as quickly as possible.
So, please help by donating now, either on this site, or by calling me to go on one of my sponsorship forms (07739 326036).
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Breakthrough Breast Cancer gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
So please sponsor me now!

STOP PRESS!!!
Andy Bell, ace Stokie, skiing and golfing buddy, and all-round good guy, is also running with me and raising funds for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Even more reason to dig deep and give generously to ensure that we make the full 13.1 miles on Sunday 5 October. Cheers!
