LEKNEES 2007 · 8 August 2007

The King’s Trust supports 11 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or struggling at school to get their lives on track. Many of the young people we support are in or leaving care, have been in trouble with the law, or they are facing challenges such as homelessness or mental health issues.

Story

The Challenge: For 2 weeks in September we will be cycling the length of the Pyrenees from Biarritz on the Atlantic to Perpignan on theMediterranean .  We'll be cycling approx. 600 miles and climbing at least 16,000m (over twice the height of Everest).   The route will take in about 20 peaks including the infamous Col du Tourmalet (2,115m), Col d'Aubisque (1,709m) and the Col d'Aspin (1,489m).

The Training: We have all put in alot of time and effort preparing for the event and hope we are ready to take on thePyrenees . However, we are older than we think we are, and a knee injury in training has been telling me that!

The Motivation: In 2004 we raised a significant sum for our nominated charities by cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats.  We decided then that we would need to find an even greater challenge before approaching you, our sponsors, to ask you to dig deep again and help us raise even more money this year.

We've each registered with one charity, I have chosen The Princes Trust.  By offline fund raising I am also supporting an AIDS Orphanage in South Africa. The other charities being supported are: The British Kidney Patients Association, The British Heart Foundation, & ICan.  You can visit the pages of my fellow riders on Just Giving as well.

There is a web page with more information on the event, please follow this link:

We all thank you for your support,

 John
