My Dad (Robin Tattersall OBE - just google him) turns 82 in July and my three brothers and I will join him in doing 5 marathons in 5 consecutive days.  Through these extraordinary feats of octogenarian fitness, he inspires his generation, family, friends and community to re-think "normal" expectations of fitness at that age, and to rediscover the simple power of walking.  The health-spreading effect of this is contagious. He has been a surgeon on Caribbean Islands for decades, where over consumption of modern life leaves forgotten essential natural movement and natural eating habits, leading to a dramatic and lethal rise in obesity, diabetes, cardiac problems and cancer.  When my Dad no longer practices in hospitals his healing power continues to spread through motivating others to walk and stay fit through old age.

The event is raising funds for The Veterans Charity so that they can provide wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walking sticks, bath-lifts, clothes, bedding, computer equipment, telephones and beds to people in need who have sacrificed a significant part of their lives/health/sanity to defend communities that have been forced into, or found themselves at war.  The need extends from current conflicts (such as in Afghanistan) to those still suffering from conflicts many years ago (such as WWII) and everything involving the British Military in between.
