John O'Groats To Lands End · 13 August 2008

Fire Fighters Charity provides care and support to the UK’s fire family. It helps with any health and wellbeing challenges firefighters, control staff, and everyone working in – or retired from – the UK’s fire services, as well as their families, may face - during and after service

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

In September this year I shall be cycling from John O'Groats to Lands End, downhill all the way, I HOPE!!!  Which is 956 miles in total (I'm sure once I get lost once or twice it will end up being more than 1000!).  I have chosen to do this challenge to raise much needed funds for the 'Fire Fighters Charity' & Strathclyde Fire & Rescues charity  the 'Family Support Trust'.

What is the Family Support Trust?

Formerly known as the ‘Widows & Orphans Fund’, the Family Support Trust provides assistance to all members of the trust as well as retired employees of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue in times of need. Funds for the trust are raised via current employees of Strathclyde Fire & Rescue. Much needed additional income comes from donations and various fundraising events. The Family Support Trust provides much needed assistance and contact with the Service including:-

- Bereavement Grant, currently £2,000

- Assistance Grants/Hardship Grants

- Children’s Investment Trust, on the death of a serving parent £600 is invested in the child’s name

- Summer Trip for our registered widows

- Christmas Lunch for our registered widows

- Christmas Grant to surviving spouse

I will be completing this trip on my own, so you're more than welcome to join me at anytime along the way. I shall be starting from John O'Groats on the 19th September and over the course of the next 10 days making my way to Lands End.

I am more than happy to send any pictures from the journey  and post cards from remote places to anyone who would like them.
