Emmaus tackles the problems of homelessness through a network of self-supporting Communities, where people are offered a home, work and a sense of belonging. Emmaus residents (or "Companions" as they are known), each have a room of their own and work together, refurbishing and selling donated goods. Each Emmaus Community aims to become self-sufficient through raising income in this way. In an atmosphere of practical support, Companions have an opportunity to gain new skills and regain their self-respect while working to support other people in greater need. Emmaus UK is the national charity which supports existing Communities and assists the network of Groups which are working to develop new projects.

My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

On April 5th I'm running in the Paris Marathon. My aim is to get around in less than 24 hours without resorting to public transport or ambulance.

If I complete it I'll probably run one every other week - but this is my first effort, and surely worthy of sponsorship!

I am raising money for Emmaus Leeds and Emmaus Bradford who offer valuable support to homeless people. The Bradford branch is newly established, and particularly in need of start up funding.

Thanks for the donations to date - and the comments. Mr. Swoboda - very generous offer to double the donation - I suspect your money is safe; Mrs. Ridgeway - I am touched by your confidence in me; Mr. Dodd - what scandalous libels! That was actually the only sober photo I could locate! I'm holding a baby (cropped out of shot) which is why I may appear slightly agitated...
