In September 2010, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia which turned my and my family's world upside down.

Within days, I was in York hospital having intense chemotherapy. Over six months I had 4 treatments which was tough but always had hope I would get better.

I managed a complete remission and despite a battle to get my strength back, returned to work in June 2011.

The following month I recieved the worst possible news. The Leukemia had returned and I thought life was over. The last hope was a bone marrow (stem cell) transplant and the race was on to find a suitable donor.

Fortunately, they found a donor and the long process started. More chemotherapy to get me in a remission and then the transplant in February 2012.

I don't know who my donor is although I know he's male and 21 (now 22) and lives in the UK. We have been in touch with each other anonymously but we will get to meet in February 2014. I might shed a tear on two at that point!

I want to show my appreciation to both my donor and of course Anthony Nolan, my chosen charity by doing something I would never have considered before i.e the London Marathon.
