John O Groats to Lands End · 7 May 2010

We support The Rifles & its antecedent regiments, including via The Rifles Benevolent Trust, charity No: 1119071, which incorporates Care for Casualties & the Always a Rifleman Programme. Together the Trusts support all serving Riflemen & veterans, with the AARP meeting mental health needs.

Our friend Sam, a soldier, 20 years old, was killed in Afghanistan on Remembrance Sunday 2009.

He was part of 1 Platoon A company, 4th Battalion The Rifles.  He died in hospital following an improvised explosive devise being used in the area of Sangin, Northern Helmand, Afghanistan.

In the event of this tragic news a group of five friends including myself have decided to raise money in memory and honour of him and other service people who have given their lives to support our country.  In raising the awareness of our cause we would also remember the others who return home with horrific injuries which will change their lives forever.  We are planning a sponsored cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End, which we hope to complete in eight days.

The two charities we are supporting are Help for Heroes reference at the top of the letter and The Rifles Trust.

We are asking for your support.

We are five young men, in our early twenties, some of which are apprentices or just starting out in our careers.  Therefore we have little money to contribute to this cause but we are all willing to work even harder, physically and mentally, to achieve our goal for “our friends.”

We are asking if there is any donation you can contribute to support us, either in funds or goods, such as food, equipment clothing or anything that would help us on our journey.

We will be travelling with a support vehicle on which we would be happy to advertise your organization to allow members of the public know of your support.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours gratefully

Martin
