Hi, for those of you who do not know me my name is John Welsh. Known as Slim to most people who know me I work in the offshore oil industry as a Night Toolpusher for Odfjell Drilling on the Clyde Platform in the North Sea. On the 5th of October last year I went on a trip which has been my ambition for 25 years, trekking to Mount Everest Base Camp. At 61 years I was not sure I could achieve it but I did and it was absolutely terriffic. The actual walking started on the 9th of October after flying from Kathmandu in Nepal to Lukla a small airstrip in the Himalayas. Then it was a 8 day hike to Everest to a maximum 18000 ft then 4 days back. As you can see by the photo I am always up for a challenge. The reason I chose this charity and not one of the bigger better known ones is that I have been lucky enough to raise four perfectly healthy children. I was fortunate enough to take them to Disney when they were small, and I would like to take this opportunity to help others who have not been as lucky as myself.
