Story

On Saturday 25 June I will be attempting to climb Ben Nevis. Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. The summit is 1,344 metres (4,409 ft) above sea level. As the majority of you will be laughing at this prospect I thought I'd cash in on those laughs and try to raise a bit of money for the following good cause........

Tea Leaf Trust are a small charity working directly with young people from the tea plantations of Sri Lanka. This area has an estimated 85% alcoholism rate amongst males which significantly contributes to 83% of women suffering from repeated violence (20% sexual). Due to these complex social issues the levels of suicide, attempted suicide and self-harm are very high and the young people suffer from limited opportunities and are controlled by tea companies who want to keep them as a dependent labour force in extreme poverty.

As Tea Leaf Trust was founded and is run by two of my friends Yasmene and Tim, (who donate all money to cover bank transfer charges) I can say with certainty that 100% of your donation will go to provide an educational programme teaching listening skills, positive coping mechanisms and helping to provide a support network for vulnerable young people within these traditional and caste based communities.

At the end of this year I am planning to hand over your kind donations in person to the aforementioned Tim and Yas in Sri Lanka where I hope to be able to make myself useful as a volunteer with the Tea Leaf Trust. I will be covering my own costs so every penny will go to the Tea Leaf Trust.
