This year I am doing the three peaks challenge. At 5pm on 9th July we will start at Ben Nevis then onto Scarfell Pike and finally Snowdon all in under 24 hours!

I will be rasing money for fareshare Brighton and Hove

Fareshare support's over 50 organisations in Brighton and Hove by providing them with good quality surplus food. These organisations support thousands of vulnerable people, most are homeless but many are also troubled teenagers, women escaping abuse, or sufferers of HIV/AIDS or mental health problems.

It is estimated that four million people in the UK cannot afford a healthy diet. With food prices rising, many Brighton and Hove residents are stuggling to include fresh food and healthy ingredients into their diet.

FareShare Brighton and Hove makes twice daily deliveries of good quality surplus foods to over 40 organisations, such as shelters and refuges as well day centres and community

Fighting Food Waste

FareShare Brighton and Hove works with the food industry to redistribute their good quality, edible surplus food.

WRAP estimates that the UK food and drink supply chain disposes of 6.5 million tonnes of food and drink a year. Much of this food is good quality, edible food and is unecessarily thrown onto landfill sites, left to generate tonnes of toxic, harmful greenhouse gasses. Examples of food items that FareShare receieves can include fresh fruit and veg that is past its sell-by date (though not its use-by date), long life products such as pasta or condensed milk that has damaged packaging, or everyday items that have simply been over ordered.

There food suppliers see FareShare as an ethical, safe and positive alternative for their surplus food, and we continue to develop our relationship with them. Last year we received and redistributed over 200 tonnes of food.

Providing opportunities for volunteers

FareShare Brighton and Hove is almost entirley run by a fantastic team of volunteers. Their volunteers come from across the community, many of who have been homeless or struggled with mental illness or addiction. We provide a positive and safe work environment whilst offering a programme of work skills and training in food hygeine, manual handling and fork-lift truck driving. For many it is their first step back towards regular work after unemployment or rehab.

The team i am doing this with is entirley self financing so every penny you give will go to Fareshare .
