On June 14th I’m doing a sponsored cycle ride around The Solent for my favourite charity, Shining Life Children’s Trust, which this year is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. We are marking the anniversary by starting a new project with a community in Rikillagaskada, a tea-estate in the Hill Country of central Sri Lanka. Home to 1000 people including 300 children, this tea-picking community desperately needs our support. Every family works on the tea estate and their small income is supplemented by market gardening. This community is so poor that they have no electricity, running water or sanitation facilities – they have to use the local river for all their needs. Shining Life will work with this community to provide basic health and nutrition training, investment in pre-schools, income generating training and small loan credit schemes.
The 4-year project will cost in the region of £30,000. I have pledged to raise an ambitious £1,000 from the cycle ride. Please be as generous as you can with your sponsorship – if you earn loadsamoney (and I know who you are!) why not sponsor me loadsamoney and feel good about it?! Seriously though, I will be grateful for any contribution. Thank you.
