Flora London Marathon 2009 · 26 April 2009 ·

Every two hours, someone in the UK will become paralysed. Globally, it is estimated that 15.4 million people are living with paralysis. At Spinal Research our vision is to create a world where paralysis can be cured, no matter when the injury occurred or where in the world.

Story

Well, I completed the race again!  My time was 3hrs 1 min 35 secs, my second fastest time ever.

I want to thank everyone who has supported me.  Spinal Research is a great cause and its pioneering work will soon find a way to repair injured spinal cords.

The last few years have seen progress accelerate rapidly and the first human trials are expected within two years. A cure will mean people like my own brother, Tim Clare, will be able to stand on their own two feet again.  Broken necks and broken backs cause devastating paralysis for victims and are a traumatic event for their families and friends.  It is impossible to adequately convey in words the awful reality of spinal cord injury. Thanks largely to the work of Spinal Research a cure is likely within the next few years if we can keep funding research.

And it is not too late to donate!

Kind regards.

Jonathan Clare
