Walking Wainwright's Coast to Coast for WaterAid

Thank you for visiting this page.

I am marking reaching 40 by spending the first two weeks in July walking 192 miles from St Bees to Robin Hoods Bay, following Wainwright's Coast to Coast route. Andrew Eastwood has agreed to act as navigator in chief and pace-maker, as well as using his Yorkshire upbringing to help with local dialects?!

We will consume a lot of water during our walk to sustain us during the day and refresh and cleanse us in the evening. However remote the landscape we will not be too far from clean water. Wateraid helps those who are less fortunate in this respect and it would be really good if you could support us on our way. Knowing our efforts are supporting a good cause will make the physical effort on those really challenging days seem all the more worthwhile. And this site makes it so easy to Gift Aid as well.

18 June - Training schedule drawing to a close, nearly lost boot last week. Am now concentrating on sorting the equipment.   Definitely need some new socks. Have resolved not to read any more Coast to Coast accounts, as they almost all mention getting some sort of injury.

25 June- a word from AW himself; 'It is a country walk of the sort that enthusiasts for the hills and open spaces indulge in every weekend. Its a bit longer than most, that's all.'

29 June-  Just finalising the packing. Thanks to everyone for their support to date. Hope to post an up-date on progress when we have our rest day in Richmond, asssuming we are not led astray by the 'lass of Richmond Hill'.

20 July - Rumours of our demise are exaggerated; returned home last Monday after a tough but enjoyable two weeks. Weather mixed, minor heatwave in Lakes, plenty of rain in Yorkshire. Thanks to everyone for their support.
