Update Dec 2010: It's Christmas time, a time Jon always loved so much, and a fitting one for a final donation to complete the fund raising target for Game of 2 Halves. Earlier this year, on Father's Day (just after Jon's 23rd birthday), Graham ran the Huntingdon 10K in memory of Jon and with thankfulness for Chris and Ben. If/when we hear any further information from Game of 2 Halves about how the funds have been used, we'll try to update this page.

What are we raising funds for?:

We wanted to do something positive to remember Jon, just finishing his 2nd year as a Sports Science student at the University of Gloucestershire when he tragically died. He loved sport, particularly rugby, but he also loved helping other people. He was a magnet for young children, and really enjoyed the trip to the Philippines he took in his gap year. He expressed the love of God in his own way through his love, support and friendship to many others, and we are sure that Game of 2 Halves would be a charity he'd be happy to support.

Any monies donated in Jon's memory to Game of 2 Halves will specifically be devoted to the Sangita Charitale trust in India. The project was birthed from a couple's pain at losing their daughter Sangita at a very early age and out of a vision planted in them by God to help those on the margins of society. They work with a group of people known as the Untouchables about 50 km outside Chennai (Madras) and have recently purchased a site of 11 acres on which to build a community project. Half of the site will be used to build 5 orphanages, community buildings and a farm to make them self sustaining. The other half of the site will be used for sports facilities as they establish a football pitch, volleyball court, and cricket pitch which will enable them to coach sports to the youth in the region as well as providing education and much needed health care.

Update 2009: The Sangita Charitable Trust are now proposing that the money in memory of Jon is used specifically to establish a proper soccer pitch by levelling ground, erecting fence, putting up match quality goals and buying a lawn mower for maintenance. This field will be help provide soccer coaching for local communities, a soccer field for sports camps and use for pre-season training for 15 soccer teams linked to the Trust. This will be the 1st good quality soccer field that will be available for coaching and ministry in Sangita. The whole cost of the project is estimated at just under £1500, so we have increased the target accordingly, and hope that various individuals and fund raising efforts (including hopefully a memorial rugby match) will help reach this target.

Thank you for your support and, for those who knew him, for your friendship to Jon.
