Story

Thank you for kindly visiting my fundraising page.

On the 27th June, 8 (very amateur!!) cyclists will begin an 8 day journey that will take us from one end of Britain to the other, as we cycle from John O'Groats to Lands End. Almost 1000 miles in total, averaging around 120 miles a day, spending up to 12 hours a day on saddle, pedalling into the wind.!  Why on earth would we do that?. Here's why:

Friedreich’s Ataxia which is not heard of as much as the British Heart Foundation but was nevertheless important to my father because his god daughter Kate Hingley has the condition.  Kate is Roger Hingley’s daughter and Roger, who is now Maximus’ Non Executive Chairman, was a very close friend of my father.  The two were at school together.

Friedreich’s Ataxia is one of a number of ataxias which are all genetic in origin and in general affect muscle co-ordination.  Effects can be relatively mild or life threatening.  Most affected people will be wheel chair bound by their early twenties and unfortunately the condition is progressive and at present non-reversible.  Research funds are required to identify treatments and ultimately a cure.

I do hope you feel these are worthy charities and well worth our personal challenge.

Thanks very much for visiting our page and for your donation!
