Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep. Any donations are welcome.

I am climbing Mt Kilimanjaro in the hope of raising as much money as possible for the registered charity Castle Supported Living Ltd.

I have met all the costs of the trip and all donations will go to the charity and be used to support adults with learning disabilities in the Ribble Valley area to lead active fulfilling lives of their choosing within their local communities.

I have had some involvement with a number of Castle's events and have been impressed and inspired by the work they do and the difference they make. I hope you will be able to help them continue to assist people with learning disabilities achieve their potential.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro has (for some inexplicable reason) long been an ambition of mine. So in this my 40th year on the planet I, together with 4 friends, hope to realise that ambition.

We fly out on 21/10 and start the 7 day climb on 23/10.

The task ahead will be tough, gruelling and challenging. Mt Kilimanjaro is the highest peak in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 19,341 feet (5,895m). We will experience all four seasons as we climb from the equatorial heat (mid 30s celsius) of Arusha to the permanently glacier clad summit (below -20 celsius) and very high altitude.

I am under no illusion at how tough the task ahead will be. Above 3,000m 75% of climbers experience acute mountain sickness (AMS) and approximately 65% of summit attempts fail.

It is for that reason that I ask kindly that you sponsor the attempt and not a successful summit. For those who know me well the odds of summit are something akin to winning £101m on Euromillions (it could be me).

I will up-date the page on my return to let you know how I got on.

For now thankyou for taking the time to read this and I hope I have inspired you to donate.

Joe Mulderig
