Story

Marathon Des Sables 2009 is now complete I am now looking to complete the fundraising for this event, It is not to late to donate! we have till the 1st May 2009 until this site will close.

A big thank you to all who have so far,  either made a donation, bought a raffle ticket or helped in some way  .

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Yorkshire Cancer Research gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

The is race billed as the toughest foot race on earth, the Marathon Des Sables. Held in the southern Moroccan desert, the event is a six syages over 7 days, 254 km (156 miles) ultra-marathon which is an equivalent to five and a half regular marathons.

I will have to carry everything I need for the duration on my back in a backpack (food, clothes, "sweets" medical kit, sleeping bag etc). Water is rationed and handed out at each checkpoint!

I will experience mid-day temperatures of up to 120°F, of running or walking on uneven rocky, stony ground as well as 15 - 20% of the distance over sand dunes. On the 4th day, I will set off across the barren wilderness to complete a 45 - 50 mile stage. This is followed by the 42km Marathon stage!!

So please sponsor me now and make a difference! All monies raised will go to Yorkshire Cancer Research.

"every little you give will make a big impact"

Kind Regards

Joe
