In January 2014 a friend of mine passed away suddenly and it really made me think about my life and in doing so it made me appreciate just how lucky I am. I have an amazing family and great friends who support me in everything I do, I have a lovely house to call my home, a shiny car and nice clothes to wear which I know are just material things, but I also have food to eat, clean water to drink and I'm fit and healthy, when so many people around the world are nowhere near as fortunate and lack even the basic things we take for granted.
I've supported CARE's Lend With Care program - www.lendwithcare.org - since June 2013. It's an opportunity to help people in developing countries for just £15 which to most of us is a small amount, but it really does have a huge impact on these peoples lives. It's through this programme that I learned of the challenge that I'm undertaking.
As soon as I read about CARE's Vietnam to Cambodia Cycling Challenge I couldn't stop thinking about it and what an amazing experience it would be; to see some stunning countries up close, to test myself both physically and mentally but most importantly, to raise money to help give people the chance of a better life.
So, what exactly am I doing? In February 2015 I'm going to cycle as part of a group of around 20 people from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia, a total of 462km or 287 miles, over the course of 7 days, with a daily average temperature of 28°C. Along the way we'll visit 2 of CARE's projects and see first hand how the money we raise makes a difference.
I would really appreciate if you could get behind me and support me in my challenge by giving as much or as little as you can afford. It will really help to encourage and motivate me in my training knowing that you're out there and that you believe in me.
Thank you!
Jo
