Congratulations and thank you! You've landed at the donation page for
Journey to the South (非遊記), to donate to the "Send a Cow" charity. Getting to this page was a lot easier than getting our car to the Cameroon will be, and that's much easier than being a small farmer in Africa, so please help close the misery gap by donating whatever you can spare.
As a reminder, we'll be taking an entirely unsuitable car, outfitting it like a Chinese taxi, including a metre, and driving it from London to the Cameroon, over a total distance of around 10,000 to 15,000 kms.
Donating here combines all sorts of pleasures: the warm feeling of giving, the vicarious thrill of pretending you're in our taxi, and a bit of gambling too. Here's how it works: set your taxi rate by picking a donation per kilometre, e.g., £0.1 per km; then gamble on far we'll actually get, out of ~15,000 kms; then multiply the two and donate!
As a pure gamble, there's no consequence for getting the distance wrong, except of course for the feeling of shame if we beat your estimate, and that of magnanimous generosity if we don't. If you leave a message after donating, please record your rate and the number of kms.
Finally, for UK residents the government will give some of your taxes to the charity too, so it's a double score. And for Shanghai residents, everyone who donates will earn an invite to the celebratory feasting on Zhu Bajie (猪八戒) when I return, which is guaranteed to be among the parties of the year.
