My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Four of us (almost 25% of the population), ladies from the metropolis of Whaw, Arkengarthdale, North Yorkshire' are participating in the 2009 Swaledale Marathon.  We'll be covering 23+ miles and climbing more than 4,000 feet.  We range, in age, from 43 to 66.  Running is not an option (this year!!), but we do anticipate finishing well within the cut off time of 10 hours.

We're collecting, locally, for both the Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team (SMRT) and for The Dogs Trust.  We're using this site to get to friends, relatives and guests from further afield and for that reason, this page is aimed at those who visit the Northern Dales to enjoy their beauty, peace and tranquility and all on-line donations will go to SMRT.  If anyone would prefer to donate just to The Dogs Trust, then please forward a cheque, payable to The Dogs Trust, to Chapel farm, Whaw, North Yorks, DL11 6RT

Occasionally, just occasionally, folk hurt themselves out on the fell, or fall sick, or become lost in deteriorating weather conditions.  It is for these unplanned emergencies that SMRT trains and stands by.  The cost to team members in personal equipment, time and effort is huge.  Their vehicles, communications and capital equipment and accommodation is funded entirely from contributions.  In this respect, they are no different from all other UK mountain rescue teams.  But they are our rescue team.  Please help them to keep this beautiful area safe for us all.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us now!
