Walk For ME · 11 May 2015

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects approximately 250,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

I am fundraising by walking 5 miles for ME Research UK In order to raise awareness of this condition. My 5 mile walk will be as a team supporting my sister who suffers with this and will take place within awareness week (11th-17th May).

There is around 240,000 people in the UK with this condition so it is likely someone you know has it.

Chronic fatigue/ME causes chronic exhaustion, pain and weakness in muscles, disrupted sleeping patterns, IBS, concentration issues along side brain fog and sometimes periods of memory loss  the list is not exhausted as there are many more symptoms to this debilitating illness. Some people are also bed bound by this condition and are reliant on family members for care. There is currently no cure for this condition but therapies that can help alieviate symptoms for short periods of time such as b12 injections, cognitive behavioural therapy, and lifestyle management courses.

ME Research was founded in 2000 and promotes raising awareness and gaining funds for biomedical research into the affects, consequences and hopefully a cure for Chronic Fatigue/ME.

Both Me and Lily (2 months) will be walking the 5 miles (Lily in the pram)and we would both appreciate your support in fundraising for this cause. No matter how big or small every £1 will help to further investigate and support ME Research's mission to find a cure.
