#########  RESULT: 4 HOURS & 16 MINUTES ##########

What a day! Definitely one of the most memorable days of my life.....35,000 runners, joggers, Darth Vaders, Giraffe's etc cheered literally from start to finish by untold numbers in the most enthusiastic of crowds.

And in TOTAL AROUND £3000 raised for deafblind kids between this site, the tax back and those who prefered to write cheques.

THANKYOU TO ALL WHO'VE CONTRIBUTED SO GENEROUSLY.

I've never run a marathon. I've always played sport but never thought of myself as a runner. I got into jogging to get fit for a skiing event 4 years ago and managed a very slow half marathon. I kept going, completing 1 more each year since but never seriously considered joining 30k people running round London in the spring. It wasn't just the event that put me off, it was also the thought of 6 months training gradually building up to 40 miles / week. I just didn't know how I'd find the time or the willpower.

So why now? Maybe it's the classic 'mid life crisis' (I'm now 42), perhaps it's to do with having 2 young kids or a way to cope with the stresses of a heavy workload. I suspect all of these contribute but quite simply the thought which drives me on when the training gets tough is the charity I'm hoping to support. Sense International provides assistance to deafblind people in developing countries. They do practical things including: educational, vocational and training services, and help local organisations and governments to meet the needs of deafblind people.  Just imagine being born in Uganda or Bangladesh with no sight or hearing and you'll immediately understand just how tough their lot might be.  Here's their website: www.senseinternational.org.uk
