Getting 'On The Wagon' to run two half marathons · 11 August 2008

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

What am I doing?
I will be running the Cardiff Half Marathon on Sunday 19th October 2008.

Seven days later I will be running the Birmingham Half Marathon, on Sunday 26th October 2008.

In an attempt to get myself fit for these events I will be giving up alcohol for 6 weeks, from Sunday 14th September until after the Birmingham run on Sunday 26th October... I think this could be the biggest challenge of the lot!!

Why the British Heart Foundation?
My dad, who died very suddenly last year, suffered with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy,  which is a disease of the heart muscle.

Had he still been alive I'm sure he would have bet me that I couldn't manage 6 weeks without a drink so, in a loosely connected kind of way, this is my bet with him... and a good cause wins regardless.

Why is the target £238?
Because it only takes £1 from each of my Facebook friends to reach this amount - how hard can that be?
