This year, as I set off to walk 150 miles from St Martin d'Orb to Toulouse on the ancient pilgrim route from Arles to Santiago de Compostela, I invite you to transform the lives of poor communities around the world in a novel way: by helping build a virtual village!

You could provide a vegetable garden or train a village vet; give tools or a toilet; help begin a business or buy some bees. What about a wood-saving stove; water for a family - or a whole community? Together we can create a whole village!

You can do this with CAFOD's World Gifts. There are five sorts to choose from:

  • Emergency, Conflict and Rehabilitation provides immediate aid when disaster strikes, and supports vulnerable communities as they rebuild their lives. For example, 'Refuge and Safety' is just £10.
  • For many, poor climate and lack of equipment or training makes even growing enough food just to survive impossible. The Livestock, Agriculture and Livelihoods fund provides essential skills to help longterm. For £20 you can give some 'Chirpy Chickens'!
  • The Water and Food fund supplies poor communities with life-saving essentials. By supporting this fund you ensure people living on the edge have access to the basics for survival. £33 provides a family with an ingenious 'Wood-saving Stove'.
  • By supporting Education and Skills Training, you are giving people the chance to learn life-changing skills. What about giving 'Tools for an Apprentice' for £40?
  • Poverty often means people have no access to medical care and die from easily preventable diseases. By supporting Health and Care you give people in desperate need of medical attention the chance of a safe recovery. The gift of a 'Community Toilet' is £85.

Let's see how vibrant a village we can create! If you would like to help, please choose your gift - which are anything from £4 to £5000! - and then make your donation on this page. If possible, write in the comments what you have chosen. Then we'll all see how our village is growing!

Thanks for all your support!
