Story
12th September ****** WE DID IT ******
and what an experience it was. Absolutely marvellous - and such support from family and friends. Photos on here so do have a look. The rather good one of Jacquie & I resplendent in our Robbie Tshirts was taken by Graham, Jacquie's husband - so good its gone into the local paper.
Our thanks to all the organisers, and especially the guys at the top, who couldn't have been better.
We hope to raise over £2,000 once all the money has been collected - an update will follow.
11th September The big day is tomorrow - a little bit nervy now - we're looking on it as a life affirming challenge to be enjoyed.
9th September As we reached our original target of £1,000, Jacquie has decided we should increase it - its now £1,500. And today, Thursday 9th Sept, I'm pleased to say that we just exceeded that - thanks to everyone who has donated/promised money.
Monday 6th September. Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page - and a big thank you to all those kind people who have donated or promised money on and offline to us already - we can not thank you enough.
The time for our abseil is between 11.30 and 12 midday on 12th September. So if you are in Reading come to the Blade and see us do our bit!!
Working at Reading Urology (see www.readingurology.com) we are only too aware of what a difference Robbie the Robot has made to prostate operations at the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
The robot assists our consultants, Adam Jones and Zaheer Shah, when they perform radical prostate operations. They are using all the clinical and technical capabilities of traditional open surgery, whilst enabling them to operate through tiny incisions of keyhole surgery. The Royal Berkshire NHS Trust acquired the da Vinci robot thanks to a very generous donation. But to keep Robbie operating in Reading, they need to raise a further £1 million over the next three years. So we have decided to take the challenge and Abseil the Blade on 12th September 2010. The Blade is the tallest building in Reading making a striking difference to the town skyline. We will be abseiling down 14 storeys, and while Jacquie had abseiled before (perhaps not quite as far), it’s a first for Julia. Your support would be gratefully appreciated – however small or large your donation. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity. So please dig deep and donate now.
