Hello,
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. I found out back in December that I had finally won a place in the ballot for the London Marathon (after trying unsuccessfully for 3 years) and I was looking for a local cause to raise money for. Soon after I heard that my local church St. Bartholomews, Sydenham was starting a fundraising campaign to raise money for the complete rewiring of the church building. Though not much of a church-goer myself it is imporant to me to raise money for something local to where I live, where I can see the money make a real difference.
Those of you who know St. Bartholomews church already won't need reminding that it is a beautiful building - proven by the fact that back in 1871 my favourite impressionist painter - Pissarro - decided to paint a picture of it, which now hangs in The National Gallery. This is one reason that this church is special to me. The rewiring of the church is essential because it has failed an inspection and if the funds can't be raised the church may have to close. I am hoping to personally raise at least £1,500 towards the cost of the rewiring. The overall costs are going to be in the region of £40,000, but of course, every penny counts.
Ok, so the rewiring a church may not sound exactly the most exciting of causes to everyone - if this is the case please just think of me running 26.2 miles and remember that your donation will make every step feel more worthwhile! Oh - and if that's not reason enough - the day of the marathon is also my birthday so think of it as a birthday present to me!!
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Bartholomew's Church, Sydenham will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
So please sponsor me now!
Many thanks for your support.
