When stroke strikes, part of your brain shuts down. And so does a part of you. Life changes instantly and recovery is tough. But the brain can adapt. Our specialist support, research and campaigning are only possible with the courage and determination of the stroke community.

Story

Julian was a fun-loving, laid-back gentleman who was loved by all those who knew him. Whilst working hard, he loved to spend time with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humour and always saw the positive in life.

Julian had a serious stroke in 2010, leaving him disabled and struggling to communicate. Despite his many difficulties, he always had a smile on his face and remained positive. He made the most of each day and looked forward to various meetings and days out organised by the Stroke Association. They were instrumental in not only his, but the entire family's recovery and adaptation to everyday life.

In August 2014, Julian's walking was noticeably weaker and sadly over the course of the year, it became progressively worse until he was unable to walk anymore. The diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease in addition to his previous stroke was too much even for his fighting spirit.

Sadly, Julian passed away on 13th August 2015, aged 52 years old. This page is in memory of him and to raise money to help other stroke survivors to benefit like Julian did from the wonderful work of the Stroke Association.
