Thank you for visiting my Squash Challenge fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
I am trying to raise as much money as possible please for The Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign by playing in two competitions in Belfast and Dublin with a view to hopefully being selected to play in The Home Internationals in April in Cardiff against England, Scotland and Wales.
I am competing in loving memory of my mother who died 40 years ago of Cancer and my younger brother Jonathan who had Cancer before sadly passing away recently on Friday 8th February 2008. I was also a patient at The Marsden for a number of years (but I was one of the lucky ones!).
I returned three weeks ago from The Ulster Masters in Belfast where I had a very enjoyable experience and met some really nice people. Luckily I managed to win the tournament, I had good, tough matches with Damien O'Reilly, David Gotto (a perfect gentleman known as "The Legend of Irish Squash" for currently holding the world-record of being the most capped international squash player of all time) and in the final, the delightful Paddy Craig.
Last weekend (15th-17th Feb) I played in The Irish Masters in Dublin where I was luckily enough to win the tournament. The competition was held at the very prestigious Fitzwilliam Club were I had a fabulous time and was made to feel extremely welcome by Robin Gibney VP Fitzwilliam Club, John O'Connor President of Irish Squash and Patrick Murray Tournament Organiser and his team.
On my way to the final I beat Jimmy Carroll and Damien O'Reilly, in the final I played once again the charming Paddy Craig. We had a very good, close, enjoyable match which I managed to win 3-1. Please see the photo above of Paddy and I being presented with our trophies by Robin Gibney.
As a result of winning in Belfast and Dublin I hope to have now secured enough points to be invited to represent the national Irish team which I am really looking forward to.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kindness and generosity and to thank all the people who have said that they would like to sponsor me; your donation will go to a great cause and help to save many lives!- thank you all.
I would also like to thank Dunlop Sport for kindly sponsoring me with rackets.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal Marsden Cancer Campaign will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks again for your kind and generous support.
Best wishes and kind regards
Julian
