I have been working with Happy Child - Criança Feliz in Belo Horizonte, Brazil since July, working with children at risk, many of whom have lived on the streets. The children range in age from 2 to 17 years and many have no parents or other family members to return to. Criança Feliz works hard to support 120 children living in 7 different houses with house parents and educators, yet more assistance is always needed.

On the 14th November at Criança Feliz, the First Caminhada - Fun Run and Cycle Ride was held here in Belo Horizonte to raise money for the children of Criança Feliz. The event started at the entrance to the Pampulha Ecological Park, continued along the edge of the picturesque Pampulha Lake, back through the Park to the finish line.

 It was a fun day with approximately 200 participants, running, walking or cycling. Some of the older children from Happy Child took part in the walk as well. A team of people from a local church, entertained the children with face painting, balloon art, music and theatre and trampolining. After the caminhada, children from different houses and groups from the churches performed dance and singing items to entertain the crowd. There are some really talented children in Happy Child! 

I managed to complete my 10Km run prior to the Caminhada as I helped out as a volunteer, supporting Caminhada participants on the day! Thank you to those who participated or supported the event financially or as a as a volunteer! Your contribution was very much appreciated!
