Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive fatal illness. It attacks the nerve cells that send messages from the brain to the muscles. As these neurones gradually die the muscles stop working. MND can destroy the ability to alk, talk, dress and swallow. The mind and senses, though are rarely affected. People with MND know exactly what is happening to their bodies. They still feel pain like the cramping of muscles that can't be moved. They also know there is nothing they can do to stop it. Life expectancy is 3 - 5 years.
My dad Alan is 58 years old, he was diagonosed with MND 5 years ago. He has been taking a new form of medication which seems to be slowing the progression of the disease but it is not a cure. He is an optimistic and passionate man and an inspiration in this desire to live life to the full.
This year I am running the Flora London Marathon on 18th April and hope to raise at least £5000 for his charity. I would really appreciate any donation anyone may make. Even £1 from everyone who visits my web page would go a long way to helping reach my target!
Thank you all very very much in anticipation of any donation made.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Motor Neurone Disease Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
