Many thanks for visiting my page - here is why I am running the London Marathon...
Neurofibromatosis is a genetic
condition affecting around 20,000 people in the . It affects mainly the nervous
system in which the nerve tissue grows tumors. It occurs in all races and
affects men, boys, women and girls equally. There are differences in the two
main groups: NF1 and NF2. Some people will be mildly affected with very few
health problems. Others will have some serious health problems that mean that
daily life is difficult and it restricts what they can do. The
Neurofibromatosis Association is a patient focussed charity dedicated to
supporting people living with the diagnosis of NF. They are a small charity and
need all the help they can get.
My sister Jane was diagnosed with
NF2 in her late teens. She suffered from multiple tumours and gradually lost
her hearing and eventually also lost her sight. Jane passed away from NF2 in
1996, just a couple of weeks from her 24th birthday. I run the London Marathon
in her memory.
