"We have fought the good fight, We have finished the race. We have kept the faith." We did it! On Sunday 13th April 2008, Martin and I ran the race of our lives - the London Marathon. (You can search for our times and statistics on www.london-marathon.co.uk. Martin's running number was 33103 and mine was 33102.) We were inspired by the battle our nana has been waging with Alzheimer's disease over the last decade. She has a very special place in all of our hearts and it is her fighting spirit that kept us running through the last six miles that were indisputably the toughest. Below you will find news about the way we raised money. If you're still reading and you haven't donated yet, well go for it now! And if you have already donated and are just checking up on us then please make today the day you pass the web address of this page on to a friend who may be interested in donating as well. The After Party Thank you very, very much to Jacqueline, Bryan, Georgia and Reilly for hosting the after party on Sunday 13th. The food was superb (especially the Thai chicken) and the pie was a very popular dessert. Mrs Canning Thank you to Mrs Canning for knitting those fine post marathon green and white jumpers. I will treasure mine always. So will Anne. She has barely had it off since last Wednesday and was last seen in a green and white flash with a bottle of red wine a few days ago... Quiz Night Number Three A fun night was had by all at the Hyndland Bowling Club. A special thanks to Anne Walker for all her hard work and to the infamous Sam and Robbie who managed to raise an additional £100 on the night by opening themselves up to bribes in return for answers. Thank you to everyone who donated raffle and auction prizes. The prizes were fantastic and I think most teams won at least one prize! Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us...we couldn't do it without you. And finally...well done to the winning team, the Western Wondercats. Without a shadow of a doubt you were the most triumphant and corrupt team of the evening! Quiz Night Number Two On a wet and windy London night on Friday 29th February, over 50 people turned up to support our second Quiz night in London. The rendezvous was 'The Log Cabin' next to Northfields tube station and within half an hour of arrival the venue had been transformed from a play school to a battle ground for friends and family of Cathie's from far and wide to pit their wits against the mighty Timbury's Trivia-tastic Quiz. A great night was had by all and we managed to raise £625! Thank you to everyone who came along, thank you to all those who donated raffle prizes and a huge thanks to Artie, Michael, Jacqueline and Anne who pulled the whole thing together. Here's to Quiz night number three in Glasgow on Friday 28th March. I wonder if we can beat £625... Does that sound like a challenge?! Quiz night Number One! Marty’s Quiz night Feb 08 Congratulations to “Girls on top” the winners of “Marty’s Quiz Night Feb 08”. And well done to the gallant runners up, the “Girl in the Green Top” and the “IBMeciles” [sic]. I’d like to extend another huge thank you to all who made the effort to attend and donate prizes. We had almost 70 people in attendance, so if everyone remembers to pay up, we should make over £350; well worthwhile, I’m sure you’ll agree. I’ve been getting lots of emails to say how much fun everyone had, so I’m absolutely delighted; that was just as important as raising money. Maybe we should do it again sometime (although next time it may be re-branded “Damien and Marty’s Quiz night…). Many thanks again, Marty 2.
