I am raising money for the One Foundation and the Architects Benevolent Society. All money raised will go directly to the charities, divided equally between the two.
My colleagues and I will raise sufficient funds to enable the One Foundation to install one new PlayPump® Water System in a local school in the KwaZulu-Natal region, South Africa. By providing a local water supply, the pump will cut down on time spent by women and children walking long distances to collect water and will greatly improve health and sanitation levels and means that the children can spend more time at school, improving their education.
In Nov 2008, we will travel to South Africa to build further basic infrastructure, as requested by the community, to contribute to their sustainable livelihoods. For example we may be digging vegetable gardens, planting fruit trees, building toilets to provide children with decent sanitation, building a kitchen for the school to prepare meals for school children or be maintaining the school facilities to ensure more children can attain vital education. This trip is paid for by Make Architects and Spinneybeck, not by your donations.
The Architects Benevolent Society care for architects, assistants, technologists, landscape architects and their dependants (husbands, wives, partners, widows, widowers and children). They do things such as purchase specialist mobility equipment to the elderly and give monthly grants to people in financial difficulty.
