6TH TO 7TH JUNE 2009

Meet the team: Andy York, Jean- Paul Leese, Paul Forshaw, Stephen Horsfall, Julie Waite - and, at the 11th hour, introducing Philip Dobson who has joined us to help in achieving our target, and also to make sure his Mum doesn't duck out of Scarfell!

The Three Peaks Challenge

To help raise money for the Society, there are 6 intrepid adventurers planning a hike up Ben Nevis, Scarfell, & Snowdon in just 24 hrs.

We have already started our training, hiking in Saddleworth & the Peak District. & the more uppies & downies there are the better.

We attempted to conquer Snowdon in January but were defeated by severe weather conditions – we were showered by ice that had been whipped up by the wind, & there were times when staying vertical was impossible due to 80mile an hour gusts of wind - (& that was before the beer). We were soooooooo near the Summit & very tempted to carry on regardless but common sense prevailed.

Morale is always high on our expeditions & we are always rewarded by stunning views followed by the anticipation of a couple of pints & some well deserved pub grub!

Watch this Space for our future adventures as we always have a tale to tell !

Barbara Hadfield (chief cook & bottle washer) & her hubby Roger (driver) have very kindly offered their services to help us achieve our aim, with a mini bus hired from the ATC. The minibus will be our home for the 24 hrs except when we are climbing up the mountains. Conditions will not be 5 star by any means, but we are relying on Roger to get us from A to B in the shortest possible time (more time on the mountains) & on Barbara’s cordon bleu for our survival!

A round of applause for JP whose survival kit is an abundance of Cadbury’s cream eggs; to Andy – who is your personal trainer?; Steve’s best friend is his GPS that provides all the info we’re ever going to need & more besides; and to Paul – who stuffs his rucksack with enough groceries to feed an army & bribes Steve to carry it!

Without their participation, this event would never have left the drawing board.

Parkinson’s Disease:

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive & fluctuating neurological condition, which affects sufferers in different ways.

In the UK alone there are 120,000 people who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which is approximately 1 in 500 people of the population.

1 in 20 of these sufferers are under the age of 40.

When I became a statistic 2 years ago I considered myself too young, surely this is an “Old Persons” condition?

But then everyone is too young to be afflicted by a disease that currently has no known cure.

The Parkinson’s Disease Society

2009 marks the 40 Anniversary of the Parkinson’s disease Society.

The Parkinson ’s disease Society is totally dependant on voluntary donations. With your support, the Society will be able to take a huge step forward in helping to find a cure for so many sufferers.
