About our charity : Barts and The London Charity Barts and The London Charity
We are the independent registered charity for the three hospitals of Barts and The London NHS Trust – Barts in the City (Britain’s oldest hospital, founded 1123), The Royal London, in Whitechapel, (founded 1740) and The London Chest, in Bethnal Green (founded 1848) - and their excellent schools of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. Charitable giving by patients, local communities and businesses has always played and will continue to play a vital role in our hospitals. Their support helps provide state of the art facilities and equipment; supports cutting-edge research and innovations in treatments and ensures the best possible standards for our patients, staff and local communities. The hospitals still rely on the generosity of donors and volunteering from people in our diverse local communities and from those further afield. The Charity’s vital work cannot continue without the help of people like you.

Our personal message:

This page is raising money in memory of my mum, Susan Mary Willis, who passed away on 5th June 2008 aged 56.

I'm raising money for Barts & the London as the brilliant and kind efforts of the clinical & research teams saved or improved my mum's life so many times. Without Barts, my mum would not have lived to get married, have children and enjoy such a full life. And we wouldn't've had the pleasure of enjoying her in ours lives.

At 17 my mum was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma, and pioneering radiotherapy at Barts saved her life. For the next 20 or so years my mum regularly attended Barts for check ups and for less life threatening thryoid disorder treatments.

Seven years ago Bart's cardiac team carried out open heart surgery to replace a faulty heart valve, which improved my mum's quality of life dramatically.

A few years later, my mum developed breast cancer, and again Barts used a pioneering technology - sentinel node biopsy - to succesfully but less invasively treat the cancer.

Sadly my mum passed away following a second round of heart surgery this June, despite the exemplary skill and efforts of the cardiac surgery and cardiac intensive care teams.

I am raising money for Barts & The London to support further advances being made and so that more people can benefit from the world class and cutting edge care my mum received.

So on to the fundraising!

This year, on 9th August 2008 I am participating in a sponsored sky-dive!

I am paying for the sky-dive so all donations will go directly to Barts and The London & don't forget to tick the gift aid box! Anyone wishing to donate by cash or cheque, please e mail me at julievwillis@gmail.com.

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Barts and The London Charity gets your money faster and, if you're a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
