My wonderful Dad, Bob Woods passed away 2nd September 2010 at 5am. He died peacefully at home with my Mum, his wife of fify years, Dolores  and his daughters with him. He would not have had the dignity and comfort of dying at home had it not been for the support of the local hospice.

Many friends and colleagues have generously asked if they could make a donation in memory of Dad. At my Mum's request she would like to help our local hospice.

Hospices are often misunderstood and feared by people. What our hospice provided to my Mum as Dad got weaker these last few months was the equipment and nursing staff to allow her to continue to care for Dad at home. It gave her such peace of mind when after a nursing visit a cheery member of staff would reappear a few hours later with some equipment for either the bedroom, bathroom or to help with Dad's mobility. Each time perfectly sized for Dad and fitted in my parent's home without fuss or aggravation.

The hospice also provides nursing visits daily and more if required. Whatever worries Mum had were always handled with respect and kindness and these wonderful staff helped make Dad's last few weeks comfortable and pain free.

It has been inspirational to mean to see the difference that good care in the community can mean to quality of life. Regardless of Mum's boundless love and energy, she just couldnt have coped with Dad at home without the medical and emotional support of our local hospice team.

The hospice cares for 500 patients per year. It does so with a budget of 2.4 Million Pounds. 40% of this comes from the primary care trust and the rest is raised locally from donations and fund raising. 90% of everything donated goes to helping patients.

If you would like to make a small donation I know how much it would mean to the hospice. They do such wonderful work, helping people in their darkest hour of need to have dignity and comfort
