UPDATE:

ok, so I had some troubles and it did not happen on the day in question, but I did finally manage to launch myself out of the plane on the 17/11/2011 and it was ace!

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Hi, I'm julesd. On the 8th of October I will be travelling to North London Parachute Centre (near Cambridge), where I will be doing my first ever parachute jump.  I am doing this for the charity: War Child International.  War Child International exists to create the conditions that will fulfill the protection, development and survival rights for children and young people who are living with, or recovering from, the effects of armed conflict.

I am asking you to sponsor me to do this parachute jump and give your money to War Child. This money is will be used to protect children living in the world's most dangerous war zones and  whose lives have been torn apart by war. In 2010 their 68 field staff directly supported 28,344 children in Afghanistan, Iraq, DRC and Uganda at a cost of just 29p per child per day.

I am aiming to raise a total of £1500 and with this in mind, I have decided that just falling out of a plane is not enough. Firstly, before I can make the jump, I have to make sure I make the weight. Currently I am way over the maximum weight I need to be to jump. I have 3 calendar months to lose 22lbs (10Kg).

Then there is the jump itself - there are 3 different ways you can do your first parachute jump :

1.) Jump at 3000 feet attached to a static line which is designed to automatically open your parachute for you as you exit the aircraft (Not for me, thank you!).

2.) Jump from the aircraft securely strapped to the front of your Instructor who will control the free fall element of your skydive, open the parachute for you at around 5000 feet, and then steer your parachute safely back to the landing area for a soft controlled landing (Sorry, but no!).

3) A full day in the class room going through the required training syllabus, followed by your first skydive with two instructors from an altitude of up to 13,000 feet.  One does this jump using your own parachute, controlling your own free fall, and steering the parachute safely back to the ground alone (Now we are talking!).

Of course, I chose option 3. So, please dig deep and sponsor me online now.
