The Walkley Midnight Walk I am going to be walking 20miles in total darkness along the Ridgeway on the Wiltshire Oxfordshire border. My target is to raise multiples of £350............ £700, £1050, £1400 WHY, then read on. Two years ago my wife, Gin set up the Swindon Link of Chernobyl Childrens Lifeline (CCLL). The charity organises for children in Belarus to stay with host families across the UK including our home link of Swindon. The children of Belarus have been born and grown up all their life in contaminated lands still suffering the after effects of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The radiation still and will continue to contaminate for thousands of years to come. These children suffer from varying degrees of illness, under development, deformity and lack of nutrition. The visit, holiday or resbite care (call it what you want) lasts for one month. This amount of time eating fresh, uncontaminated food, clean water extends the childs life expectancy by two years. Whilst the children are here they become an extension of the family hosting them. During this time we offer them an experience of a lifetime, literally. From simple things like a visit to the local fire station or Trout farm to activities like ice skating or a day at centre parcs, usually provided at no cost by the organiser. Even a trip to the seaside is a fascination as Belarus is land locked! So help me to raise enough money to bring as many children as possible.
