Charity organisations across the UK are facing bleak times.

Cameron’s hopes for a ‘Big Society’ seem unfortunately fanciful considering the cuts to local governments and, indirectly, the many charitable social institutions that they fund.

The services provided by local authorities, and supplemented by charitable organisations is threatened.

I suppose we could hope for a super tax on bankers bonuses?

Like that was ever going to happen. Jumping out of a plane is probably more likely to raise money for charities.
So that’s what I’m going to do! Despite my potentially irrational fear of heights and a rational cold-sweat-inducing terror of . . .

Sponsor me?
I’m not going to ask you to donate every time you use your card at a shop or cash machine, only if I happen to be standing next to you at the time. Promise.
Annoying? Maybe a tiny bit. Will it work? We can only hope.

The charity I’m raising money for is called TACT.
They are the largest provider of adoption and fostering services in the UK. The money donated will be used to fund the Trusts’ services, funded only by donation, to children aged 16-18 who are leaving the care system. These are some of the most vulnerable adolescents in our society. The support they need is basic but essential. A Skills4Life programme teaches these young people about money matters, home management, employment, health and further education. Access can also be provided to Leaving Care Resource Workers, who can help to ensure these children are at least housed suitably.
Not much is it? Compared to the amount of educational, emotional and other life support that most children get from their networks of friends and relatives. Networks that can develop in a comparatively stable environment.

This is about society. About making an effort to include in it those children who might otherwise never get the chance to become a part of it.
Those that work for organisations such as TACT are unsung heroes, but they needn’t be unfunded. Please give as you can.
Otherwise they might not give me a parachute.
