Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page and making a donation towards this worthy cause.

 30 September 2009 - Closing Message

Target Reached!  Thank you so much to everyone who has generously donated to the Camden Society and made this a very enjoyable fund raising experience.  These kind donations are enabling them to make some great improvements to their projects in Tower Hamlets.

The Antill Road Day Service have now placed an order to refurbish and provide new equipment for their snoezelen sensory room.  This refurbishment will allow them to refurbish the bubble tubes, projector equipment and mirror balls. They will also add additional equipment to their sensory room, such as tactile tiles, vibrating musical cushions and further hoist accessible spaces.    This will allow them to provide further stimulation to people with sensory impairments and the additional hoist areas will enable more wheelchair users to access the room that is used for a variety of activities, including: Massage, Intensive Interaction and Sensory Stimulation.  These sessions make a real difference to each individual.

Hotel in the Park, a respite hotel for adults with disabilities, will be using the rest of the money to create a fantastic sensory garden which will make the hotel garden a great place for relaxation and enjoyment for the guests on their holiday.

23 June 2009

Returned from my successful climb; we reached Uhru Peak / summit at 08.15 on Thursday 18th June.  The adventure lived up to all expectations I had including the wonderful scenic experiences of the terrains that we trekked through and the physical challenges they represented that at times were “torturous”.  God blessed us with two fantastic guides and I can safely say that without them, their knowledge / experience / support / patience / fantastic humour we would not have made it.

Having weathered some issues due to high altitude I did feel “lightheaded” on my return & couldn’t quite believe I did it! To ensure climbers don’t forget the Kilimanjaro Park Authority gives a certificate of achievement!!

It’s back down to normality and I am pleased to say that we are very close to “summiting” our fund raising target too -   this is thanks to your donations.   The close date for this fund raising is 13 September, please do pass the message on to others who would be happy to help in our “push for summit” and launch The Camden Society’s projects in Tower Hamlets - all funds raised will go towards the two projects.

9 June 2009 - Update

Thank You for your kind donations towards this fund raising mission. Also, Thank You to all of the “offline” donators.  To date your contributions have helped to raise £6,800.

The fund raising will close on 13th September 2009, with your support we will reach the target and help The Camden Society Charity launch two of their projects (at  their centres in Tower Hamlets) that will help improve the quality of lives of people with learning & physical disabilities using these two centres.  All funds raised will go towards these projects.

This Saturday (13th June) I will be moving out of my “comfort zone” and begin my expedition to the summit of Mountain Kilimanjaro.  Your contributions, kind thoughts & encouragement will keep me going to the top and during my climb we will continue to raise more donations to reach our target.

Please do pass the message on to others who would be happy to donate to this fantastic cause, also please consider making a further donation.

Original Message

On June 13th I will be beginning my journey to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.  Standing at 5,895 metres, Kilimanjaro is the world’s highest free-standing mountain and is also recognised as being the highest point on earth attainable by a non-experienced and non-technical mountaineer.

I am doing this to raise money for The Camden Society Charity and all donations received will go towards two of their projects.  There is a need to build a sensory garden and to provide specialised equipment for people with complex disabilities at their centres in Victoria Park and Mile End, which are both located in the London of Borough of Tower Hamlets.

My employer, LCH.Clearnet, has an established Corporate Responsibility programme and as part of this have pledged a donation of £1,250 for this fund raising event.

Trekking to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro presents a significant challenge for me and one that I have not underestimated. However, the daily challenges that face people with learning and physical disabilities are far greater and with our help we can make a difference.  Please donate generously to enable the sensory garden and the purchasing of specialised equipment to go ahead, as they will significantly improve the quality of lives of people using these centres.

I look forward to the challenge and to your support; together we can make these projects happen.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Camden Society gets your money faster and, if you are a UKtaxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

However, if you prefer to make an off-line donation please contact me (kal.taheem@lchclearnet.com or on 02074267108)
