At YBTC, we walk beside anyone impacted by a brain tumour diagnosis through every step of their journey. Our local support brings comfort, care, and hope to families across Yorkshire- while our local research and investment in 'pump priming' brings us closer to kinder treatments and a cure.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

At 17 Louby aka Laura Robertson Tierney collapsed at work and was diagnosed with two brain tumours in her brain stem. Life changing surgery and radiotherapy have left Louby with a long road to recovery. This bright, determined young woman has put her own problems to one side and with her family and friends' support is raising funds to support Brain Tumour Research and Support across Yorkshire.

I first met Louby in October when I interviewed her and mum Emma for the Gazette and Herald which is supporting her appeal.

I also wanted to do something personally to help so decided to take on sponsored swim with the aim of completing 22 miles - the equivalent of the English Channel - before Christmas.

Working in newspapers I have met lots of different people from all walks of life but Louby’s story is one that will always stay with me.

As the mum of two daughters I am full of admiration for Louby for her bravery and for Emma who hasn’t left her daughter’s side since the start of this ordeal.

I hated swimming at school but took it up again when I was Louby’s age to get away from the stress of A levels and it has been a good way to get away from it all ever since - I hope people will support me and boost this worthy cause.”

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
