Royal Parks Half Marathon 2011 · 9 October 2011 ·

We are the national charity for people experiencing homelessness. We help people out of homelessness and campaign for the changes needed to solve it altogether.

Story

Well, I survived. It wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty. Finished in 2h31m57s which is slightly faster than 5 mph but not much better than my top speed walking! I'm happy though. I 'ran' the first 9 miles which is further than I've run since goodness knows when.

The Royal Parks Half is a good race, well organised (apart from the very inefficient baggage storage) and could be a pb course as it's pretty much flat. First half is a lovely sightseeing experience, the second half is a complicated snaking effort around Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens.

I made the mistake of cycling to the station which meant that there was 2.94 miles of pedalling into a headwind to get home at the end of the day with only one pint of anaesthetic taken onboard. I am now creaking. Just a bit.

It's not too late to laugh at my pain and sponsor me, simply click some button on this page. And my huge thanks to all my friends who've already done that. And special thanks to Mike for the scrummy carbs available at the end of the race :-)

Oh, you can give by text too. Send a message "CRIS51 £x" to 70070 where £x is the amount you want to donate. All the money goes to Crisis because Vodafone are doing it for free. Apparently.

THANK YOU
