Dear All
In just a few days time we will be leaving Heathrow Airport for the start of our trip to Kilimanjaro!
Over the last few months we have been training hard to prepare for a challenge of a lifetime. Our trip will start off by visiting one of COCO's projects to show us how our sponsorship money will be spent via the education of children living in extreme poverty. COCO doesn't believe in hand outs, but if they can help to give children the opportunity to learn, they will thrive. We would like to thank you so much for your extremely kind donations and for your support.
On Sunday 1st November armed with Malaria tablets, Mosquito spray, Paracetamol, Compede and lots of other medications advised to take, we will start our trek up Kili taking the Machame Route - this first day will take us through thick cloud forest and finally arriving at 2,980m above sea level to camp overnight. Day two will be a steep ascent to Shira Plateau at 3,840m above sea level. Day three will be a gradual incline to 4,400m above sea level then back down to 3,950m for a night of acclimatisation! Day four 'Barranco Wall' a height gain of 700ft. Day five ascent towards Barafu Camp at 4,600m and an early night before SUMMIT the next day. Day six will start at 00:30 with a steep, rough ascent on loose scree and rocks to Stella Point at Sunrise. From Stella Point another ascent to Uhuru Peak - The Roof of Africa 5,895m above sea level!
